Royal Selangor has teamed up with The Walt Disney Company Southeast Asia to launch a collection that commemorates STAR WARS, one of the most successful movie franchises of all time and worldwide popular culture phenomenon.

Collaborating on something the scale of Star Wars would usually be challenge enough. Whilst Lucasfilm-approved material aided in accurate depictions, Royal Selangor’s design team had the added challenge of achieving all this in pewter, an alloy with its own unique quirks and characteristics. The designers and sculptors at Royal Selangor ensured accuracy in the features and accessories of each Pewter Figurine by referencing on-set photos, film screenshots and Lucasfilm approved reproduction art.

Behind the Scenes

With only a static, albeit iconic mask for a face, capturing its expression of menace took special care. Attention was also paid to often overlooked details, such as the chest panel’s instrumentation and the suit’s texture. In order to avoid distortion as the metal cools, the head, chest and cloak are cast as one piece, separate from the torso and lower body.
